Pergamon Energy Commissions 120kWp Microgrid for Rift Valley Agribusiness
NAKURU, KENYA — October 2026 – Pergamon Energy has officially completed and commissioned an advanced 120kWp solar-diesel hybrid microgrid for a leading agricultural processing facility located near Subukia in Nakuru County.
The agribusiness, which processes and packages high-grade macadamia nuts and export avocados for international European and Middle Eastern markets, had previously faced acute grid unreliability and surging diesel fuel expenditure during Kenya’s dry seasonal peaks.
Engineering Resilience in the Agro-Processing Corridor
Cold-chain integrity and optical sorting equipment at the plant require uninterrupted, stable 3-phase power 24 hours a day. Before the commissioning, sudden feeder tripping along the rural distribution lines forced the plant’s two 250kVA standby diesel generators to run an average of 6.5 hours per day.
Pergamon Energy’s engineering team designed and deployed a comprehensive turnkey microgrid that integrates:
– 120kWp Ground-Mounted Bifacial Solar Array: High-efficiency panels installed on anti-corrosive ground racks engineered for high UV resistance and minimal soil disturbance.
– 240kWh LiFePO4 Energy Storage System (BESS): Housed within an insulated, climate-controlled container with aerosol fire suppression and remote battery management telemetry.
– Microgrid Controller & Fuel-Saver Technology: An intelligent automated controller that synchronizes solar production with existing diesel gen-sets, maintaining optimum generator loading (avoiding wet-stacking) while throttling diesel burn down to the bare technical minimum.
Early Performance Benchmarks
Within the first 45 days of system energization, site operational logs have demonstrated remarkable gains:
| Operational Metric | Pre-Commissioning Baseline | Post-Commissioning (30-Day Average) | Improvement |
| Diesel Fuel Consumption | ~4,200 Litres / month | ~1,340 Litres / month | -68% Reduction |
| Grid Outage Interruption Downtime | 22.4 hours / month | 0 hours (Seamless UPS transfer) | 100% Protection |
| Clean Energy Penetration | 0% | 76% (Daytime hours) | +76% Renewable |
| Avoided CO₂ Emissions | 0 Tonnes | ~11.8 Tonnes / month | Measurable ESG Impact |
Executive Statement
“This project embodies exactly why distributed solar infrastructure is transformative for East African agriculture,”
said the Inaugural Team at Pergamon Energy.
Our clients cannot afford to have millions of shillings in export-grade produce spoiled by a three-hour grid blackout or eroded by diesel prices. By combining Tier-1 solar generation with automated battery storage and intelligent generator management, we have given them guaranteed power security at a fraction of their prior operating cost.”
said the Inaugural Team at Pergamon Energy.
Future Phase
Phase 2 of the installation is scheduled for early 2027, which will expand the ground-mount array by an additional 80kWp to accommodate the client’s planned new vacuum dehydration line.
